### Lesson Plan: Introduction to Road Signs and Zebra Crossing
**Grade:** Nursery 1
**Subject:** Basic Science and Technology
**Lesson Duration:** 30 minutes
**Topic:** Road Signs - Zebra Crossing
#### Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
1. Recognize and identify a zebra crossing.
2. Understand the purpose of a zebra crossing.
3. Learn basic crossing safety rules.
#### Materials Needed

- Toy cars and pedestrians (dolls or figurines)
- A large sheet of white paper with black stripes to mimic a zebra crossing
- Coloring sheets with zebra crossing images
- Crayons
- Traffic light props (optional)
#### Introduction (5 minutes)
1. **Greeting and Attendance:** Welcome the students with a cheerful greeting and take attendance.
2. **Hook:** Start with a simple question, "Has anyone seen stripes on the road or near the school?" Show a picture of a zebra crossing and ask if anyone knows what it is.
#### Instruction (10 minutes)
1. **Explanation:** Explain that the striped lines on the road are called a zebra crossing. Show them pictures and videos of people using zebra crossings.
2. **Purpose:** Explain that:
- Zebra crossings are designed to help people cross the road safely.
- Drivers stop to let people walk across the road at zebra crossings.
- It is important to look both ways before crossing.
3. **Demonstration:** Use toy cars and pedestrian figures to demonstrate how people use zebra crossings. Show how cars stop and pedestrians walk across.
#### Interactive Activity (10 minutes)
1. **Role-Playing:** Set up the large sheet of paper with black stripes on the floor to create a mock zebra crossing. Have students take turns being drivers and pedestrians, practicing stopping cars and walking across the stripes.
2. **Discussion:** Ask the students what they should do when they get to a zebra crossing. Encourage responses such as looking left and right, waiting for cars to stop, and walking carefully.
#### Artistic Activity (5 minutes)
- Hand out coloring sheets with images of zebra crossings.
- Provide crayons and have students color the pictures.
- Walk around to assist and reinforce the lesson's points as they color.
#### Conclusion (3 minutes)
1. **Review:** Recap what they learned today about zebra crossings and road safety.
2. **Questions:** Ask a few questions to check understanding: "What do you do when you see a zebra crossing?" "Why are zebra crossings important?"
3. **Praise:** Give positive reinforcement and praise to the students for participating and learning.
#### Homework (Optional)
- Ask students to draw their own zebra crossing at home or look for one with their parents.
### Assessment
- Observe students during the role-playing activity to ensure they understand how to use a zebra crossing.
- Check the coloring sheets to ensure they have understood the concept of a zebra crossing.
